If you start to hear strange noises coming from your Mazda’s engine, head to our shop right away. We will inspect the engine thoroughly to find out why your Mazda is complaining, if you will. The following sounds are noises you should not hear coming from your Mazda’s engine.
Grinding
Grinding noises can mean that there is a problem with your Mazda’s oil circulation. The metallic sounds point to engine parts grinding against each other because they are not being lubricated by the motor oil. A clogged oil filter can prevent oil circulation. We recommend that you pull over and call for a tow to our shop if your engine is grinding. Driving without oil circulation can kill the Mazda’s engine.
Hissing
A hissing sound coming from the Mazda’s engine could mean that the engine has a fluid leak. As the automotive fluid drips onto hot engine parts, it will hiss or sizzle. Hissing noises can also come from a leaking vacuum hose in the Mazda’s engine. If you have an exhaust system leak, the Mazda will make popping or tapping noises in the engine, especially when you first fire up the vehicle.
Knocking
Your Mazda’s engine might also knock if there is a problem in the cylinders with the combustion chamber’s detonation. Things that create detonation knock include a lean fuel mixture, low-octane fuel, and worn spark plugs. The engine can also knock if the pistons are making contact with the cylinder walls when they move up and down. Worn rod bearings create this problem.
Rumbling
Rumbling noises are also a sign of a leaking exhaust system, but in this case, it’s the muffler that’s leaking. When the muffler gets a hole in it, the engine rumbles loudly, especially when you accelerate. If somebody stole the catalytic converter from your Mazda’s exhaust system, the engine will rumble and roar loudly. Don’t drive the Mazda without a catalytic converter as you can inhale exhaust.
Squealing
Sometimes, the Mazda’s engine might squeal when you first turn it on. This is a sign that you need to have the accessory belt tightened or the pulley replaced. The power steering pump might also squeal if it is going bad. Generally, you will hear the noise when you turn the Mazda’s steering wheel.
